Tubular Heaters: How to Estimate Size

Tubular Heaters: How to Estimate Size

  • When estimating the length and heat output requirement of your tubular heater, there are a number of influencing factors, such as the cubic size of the space, where the heater is to be installed e.g. internal room, timber shed, greenhouse heater, the room's construction and level of insulation, other forms of heat which are also present, number of external windows and doors, external temperature etc.
  • Calculating the size of the tubular heater you are likely to need can therefore only be approximate. For typical examples, please see below.
  • Having determined the approximate Watts you require, you can then choose the relevant Single, Double, Triple or Quad tubular heater, to suit your layout and dimensions.
  • The heat output of our Original Tubular Heaters is 80 Watts (W) per foot (approximately 0.3m), and is therefore more powerful than other tube heating, which is just 40W or 60W per foot. For Doubles, Triples and Quads the Watts output is a multiple of 80W (please see the chart below).

  • Heat Output Options:

Tubular Heater Length SINGLE heat output (W) DOUBLE heat output (W) TRIPLE heat output (W) QUAD heat output (W)
    2 feet (0.61m) 160 320 480 640
    3 feet (0.91m) 240 480 720 960
    4 feet (1.22m) 320 640 960 1280
    5 feet (1.52m) 400 800 1200 1600
    6 feet (1.83m) 480 960 1440 1920
    8 feet (2.44m) 640 1280 1920 2560
    10 feet (3.05m) 800 1600 2400 3200

    Standard Examples:

    Timber Shed

    A 4ft x 6ft (120 x 180cms) normal, timber shed:
To provide basic frost protection up to -5 degrees outside: approximately 400 Watts required i.e. 1 x 5ft Single Original Tubular Heater.
To provide background heat: approximately 650 Watts required i.e. 1 x 4ft Double Original Tubular Heater.

    Garden Office

    A 6ft x 8ft (180 x 244cms)timber (38mm) constructed office, assuming windows and doors.
To provide basic frost protection up to -5 degrees outside: approximately 500 Watts required i.e. 1 x 6ft Single Original Tubular Heater.
To provide background heat: approximately 750 Watts required i.e. 1 x 5ft Double Original Tubular Heater.
    To provide a working temperature (sitting at desk): approximately 1000 Watts required i.e. 1 x 6ft Double or a 1 x 4 feet Triple

    Greenhouse

    A 4ft x 8ft (120 x 244cms)glass (3mm) greenhouse with dwarf walls.
To provide basic frost protection up to -5 degrees outside: approximately 1300 Watts required i.e. 2 x 4ft Double Original Tubular Heaters or 1 x 8ft Double Tubular Heater
To provide background heat: approximately 1800 Watts required i.e. 2 x 6ft Double Original Tubular Heaters or 1 x 8ft Triple Original Tubular Heater.
